Outdoor Pastimes at the Inn

The Inn offers volleyball, badminton, croquet and bocce ball on the lawn by our gazebo.

Boating

Lake Lure Tours operates boat tours on nearby Lake Lure. (828.625.0077)

Hiking

There are fine nature trails at the Foothills Equestrian and Nature Center, the Blue Wall Passage of the Palmetto Trail and the Green River Game Lands Trails. For a less strenuous walk, visit nearby Pearsons Falls. A short drive will take you to trails at the Cradle of Forestry and other N.C. State Park facilities.

Horseback Riding

Health and Fitness

Foothills Health and Fitness Center

The Foothills Health & Fitness Center is available to guests of Pine Crest Inn at the rate of $6 per person per visit. This facility, opened in March 1998, offers state-of-the-art cardiovascular, resistance and weight training equipment as well as instructor-led aerobics classes. Please inquire at the Front Office for hours and further information, and to obtain your guest pass to the center.

Jogging

Harmon Field, just minutes from the Inn, offers a jogging/walking track. The lanes and trails surrounding the Inn also are picturesque.

Swimming

As a guest here you are welcome to swim at the Tryon Country Club. There also is a new water park and a public beach at Lake Lure.

Tennis

There are four newly surfaced hard courts available at Harmon Field, just minutes from the Inn.

This open, Scottish-style course has yardage from four tees that ranges from 6,278 down to 5,051. The course is 18 holes, par 72.

Tryon Country Club

Built in 1916 by architect Donald Ross.
His first North Carolina mountain course, it is considered to be one of the best 9-hole courses anywhere. Two separate sets of tees give golfers a different look the second time around. The course is 3,148 yards, 9 holes, par 36. While private, this course is open to guests of Pine Crest Inn by special arrangement.

Red Fox Country Club

Opened in 1966, this semi-private course is 10 minutes from the Inn and is open year round. Built by architect Ellis Maples, the Championship Course is 7,104 yards, 74.5 rating, 136 slope; Middle Course is 6,393 yards, 71.1 rating, 124 slope; Forward Course is 5,705 yards, 67.6 rating, 111 slope, 18 holes par 72.

Etowah Valley Country Club

Opened in 1967, this 27-hole course is 30 minutes from the Inn. Architect was Edmund B. Ault. The Championship Course is 7,101 yards, 73.3 rating, 125 slope; Back Course is 6,880 yards, 72.3 rating, 123 slope; Middle Course is 6,287 yards, 70.3 rating, 118 slope; Forward Course is 5,524 yards, 71.3 rating, 119 slope with par 72/37. Rated 4 ½ stars by Golf Digest.

Pine Links Golf Club

Located in Flat Rock, 20 minutes from the Inn, the course was opened in 1967. Sidney H. Blyth designed the public, nine-hole course. The par 35 course is playable for seniors, great with links-style open front greens. Shorter-length holes. Easy to walk. Accuracy challenged on every hole.

Broadmoor Golf Links

In Fletcher, 45 minutes from the inn, the Scottish-style links course in the Blue Ridge Mountains has easy access off I-26 to Asheville Airport. The public course was opened in 1993. Architect was Karl Litton for the 18 holes, par 72, course open year round. Length: Championship (6,921 yards, 73.3 rating, 132 slope); Back (7,115 yards, 70.2 rating, 124 slope); Middle (5,881 yards, 68.1 rating, 117 slope); Forward (5,082 yards, 69.7 rating, 117 slope).

Orchard Trace Golf Club

Thirty minutes from the Inn, the fully lighted course is excellent for play after dark.The 18-hole, 2139-yard, par-3 public course will need a full set of clubs, because Orchard Trace plays like a full-size course. But you will be able to complete the course in about half the time of a par 72 layout. Flaughn Lamb & Johnell Scott were architects. Excellent for the traveler/sightseer who wants to unwind with his/her favorite sport.

Lake Lure Golf and Beach Resort-Apple Valley Course

Opened in 1968, the public course is open year round and is 45 minutes from the Inn. Architect for the 18 holes, par 72 course was William B. Lewis. Length: Championship (6,575 yards, 72.8 rating, 137 slope); Middle (6,125 yards, 70.8 rating, 133 slope); Forward (5,208 yards, 66.6 rating, 125 slope). Tee times are taken two weeks in advance. The course has magnificent mountain views and a full recreational facility. Golf lessons and tournament arrangements available. Golf groups for business or pleasure are welcome.

Woodfin Ridge
